Kopernik Visits the Yayasan Dian Desa Lab

On November 14 2015, the Kopernik team paid a visit to the Indonesian Cookstove Initiative (I-CSI) testing laboratory at Yayasan Dian Desa (YDD) in Yogyakarta. Kopernik’s purpose in visiting YDD was to better understand the clean cookstove testing process. Thus able to accurately convey to Kopernik players that the stove technologies they distribute are verifiably superior to that of traditional stoves on both environmental and health standards.

Kopernik is a market participant in the I-CSI program and has actively marketed and disseminated clean cookstoves throughout remote areas of the pilot program region, namely in Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Outside of the pilot program region, Kopernik has also been active in promoting clean cookstoves in remote eastern-Indonesian villages as well.

During their visit, the Kopernik team was introduced to the wide range of existing cookstoves that had been approved in both the first and second testing period. The team was met with success in an attempt at igniting a stove using nothing but instructions alone, indicative of this new technology’s ease in use.

Kopernik’s notoriety as a player in the clean cookstoves and appropriate technology market lends visibility to the I-CSI program. The hope is that their role will be met with an increase in interested market participants, leading to a reduction in health risks associated with traditional stoves that use biomass fuels.
