Launch of the I-CSI Second Stage Results

2015-12-08 09:25:56

On November 23, 2015, the Directorate of Bioenergy, the Directorate of New and Renewable Energy and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources assembled in Semarang, Central Java with the Indonesia Cookstove Initiative (I-CSI) stakeholders. The objective was to announce the results of the I-CSI second stage tests and to launch the second call for market aggregators. Declaring the opening of the event was Director of Bioenergy, Ir.Tisnaldi. In attendance were representative of the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources of Central Java, the World Bank, BRI, Yayasan Dian Desa, APEX, and the producers and current and potential market aggregators (MA) of the I-CSI program.

On this occasion, the seven clean cookstoves that would join the list of government-approved I-CSI stoves were announced. Combined with the stoves approved during the first stage, there is now a total of fourteen clean cookstoves that can be marketed in the pilot program: ACE, Amarta RT, Field Dragon, Keren Super, Phillips Stove, Prakti Leo, Prime Cylindrical Granular, Prime Square Fuelwood, Prime Square Granular, Rocket Works Wood, Rocket Works Zama-Zama, Srikandi, UB Kayu (Wood) and finally, UB Pellet. Ir.Tisnaldi provided the clean cookstove producers with certificates for their contributions. Producers were encouraged to begin marketing their stoves as an I-CSI market aggregator.

Over a year since the announcement of the first call on November 7, 2014, there were two MAs who were successful in disseminating the cookstoves, namely Ditana and Kopernik and they were given an opportunity to share their experiences and challenges faced in their marketing efforts over this period.
Prospective market aggregators were invited to attend the event and received demonstrations of the various clean cookstove designs. Participation in the I-CSI program is attractive given the support MAs receive throughout the marketing process. The I-CSI program provides support in the form of financial assistance through a Results-Based Financing (RBF) incentive scheme in which subsidies are dispersed to MAs in stages, as well as support in promotional activities and marketing.
